Millions of people in all continents of the world suffer with spinal disorders, which can have a profound effect on a person’s overall health. Sometimes the pain can prevent them from working or even doing simple daily activities. The worldwide scope of spinal disorders by condition include:

- Low back pain: 28-32% - 2.1 to 2.4 Billion People

- Spinal Stenosis: 8-11% - 608 to 836 Million People

- Osteoarthritis: 6.2-8.4% - 471 to 638 Million People

- Spondylolysis: 5-6% - 380 to 456 Million People

- Sciatica: 5% - 380 Million People

- Scoliosis: 2-3% - 152 to 228 Million People

- Rheumatoid arthritis: 0.65% - 49 Million People

- Ankylosing spondylitis (Spondylosis): 0.35-1.3% - 27 Million to 99 Million People

Research has demonstrated that poor posture and inactivity are major contributors to the development of back pain and other spinal disorders.

This year, the World Spine Day (WSD) theme is “Your Back In Action” with a goal of highlighting the importance of physical activity and improving posture as part of good spinal health and prevention of injury.
